As always, several boldfaced names came out for Opening Day of the Mercedes-Benz Polo Challenge at Bridgehampton on July 18 to pose for the paps and avail themselves of the free champagne: Star Jones, Kourtney Kardashian, Kyle McLaughlin, Jill Zarin husband Bobby and daughter Ally, and Beth Ostrofsky. But according to the New York Post, the event showed that it too might be suffering somewhat from the recession. Despite entrance to the VIP tent continuing to be a hot ticket for the young and fabulous as in previous years, opening day went without a paid celebrity host to boost its profile with the national media.
It looks like Ex-Governor Sarah Palin is about to start her summer vacation. Now that she has stepped down from her post as the Governor of Alaska and has some free time on her hands, Dan's Papers reports that recently there are signs she is going to take up residence in Hamptons Bays starting August 1. The evidence ranges from secret service men downing coffee and bagels at the Hamptons Bays Diner, wearing Alaskan flag tie clips and paying for the fare with dog-sled emblazoned credit cards, to a real estate agent from "up north" named Francis Iditarod inquiring about some properties, as well as some intercepted e-mails. Since August 1 is just days away, residents won't have to wait much longer to find out if they're getting a new neighbor.
The Hamptons is hardly known for its lush rainforests but that didn't stop entrepreneur Alan Rybar from marrying his young bride, Rachel, a swimsuit model, under the fronds of tropical greenery last weekend. The couple worked with a local wedding planner to have native Amazonian flora and fauna shipped to the East End to deck out the greenhouse of their rented summer home just for the occasion. The newlyweds were planning to honeymoon in their private rainforest but word is that they've recently decided to take a trip to the actual Amazon, despite Alan's famous fear of flying. Guess the faux forest didn't quite cut the mustard for the extravagant entrepreneur and his blushing bride.

"I didn't name them."
Male Patient:
"Can't we ease into this? Where's that other guy who was here before?"
Female Physician's Assistant: "He's an accountant. If you want this fixed today, you'd better drop your pants and let me do my job."
Male Patient: "This is so not the honeymoon I envisioned."
