Verdi was raised in suburban New Jersey and got a taste for the finer things in life by watching his Portuguese mother, a skilled dressmaker, and noshing on culinary delights prepared by his father, a French chef. During his senior year in high school, he began designing and making jewelry and selling it on the streets of Manhattan and to downtown boutiques. He went on to earn a degree from New York's Fashion Institute of Technology, and eventually had his jewelry showcased in Manhattan's "fabulous four Bs" - Barneys, Bendel, Bloomingdales, and Bergdorf.
In the early 90's, Verdi sacrificed stringing jewels and redirected his pursuits towards a television career. He began with a stint as a fashion reporter on Gay Entertainment Television, and went on to host several seasons of E! Entertainment's Fashion Police and to co-host Discovery Channel's most successful daytime show, Surprise by Design. He also helped create and host Metro TV's Full Frontal Fashion.
