Quad Zipper

Justin Marty and Joshua Pace both live and work in Salt Lake City, Utah. Justin is a musician, inventor and entrepreneur who dedicates his time to the development and promotion of his products, particularly the Quad Zipper, while Josh works as a writer and producer of documentaries and feature films. Justin started work on developing the Quad Zipper and its applications in 2000, and Justin and his friend Joseph Marty formed a corporation called Z Gear to develop and market the Quad Zipper. Justin’s good friend Josh came on board two years later as an investor and together they worked to create and develop applications for the Quad Zipper.

Highly inventive and competitive, Justin and Josh believe that the Quad Zipper technology can be applied to numerous garments and products and will transform the way people think about the clothes they wear. Compartmentalization is new to the apparel industry, but they believe that it will soon become the standard.

Where did you graduate college/high school?
Justin Marty: I graduated from Oak Ridge High School in El Dorado Hills, California, class of 1997. I put my college experience at the University of Utah on hold to pursue inventing.

What is your favorite ice cream flavor?
JM: Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough
JP: Dreyer’s Andes Cool Mint

What is your favorite invention?
JM: Running water. Can you imagine having to go out to a well every day?!
JP: Mexican food

Who is your hero?
JM: My dad Joseph Marty and Jimmy Page. Jimmy, if you're out there, let’s do lunch.
JP: People who stand up for what they believe.

What are your favorite hobbies?
JM: Guitar, performing, playing, and recording music. But really I don’t consider them hobbies - once inventing pays off, inventing will become a hobby and music will be my full-time thing.
JP: Developing ideas, Ultimate Frisbee, salsa dancing, making movies.

Are you married? Do you have any children? If so, what are their names?
JM: Not married. No kids. Not yet.
JP: No

Do you have any pets? What are their names?
JM: No pets. Growing up my dad had three sheep, three goats, and two pigs - not exactly the best-smelling experience of my life.
JP: No

What's your astrological sign?
JM: Black holes. Okay, just kidding. But really, I am a Cancer. And really, black holes and Cancers are just theories anyway.

What's the best adjective to describe you?
JM: Brownish gold (is this like the game Mad Libs?)
JP: Inventurous

What's your favorite band?
JM: Led Zeppelin, Scott Weiland and STP, Radiohead, Audioslave, Fiona Apple, Mindy Smith, Ryan Shupe and the RubberBand, and Rezolution Rock.

Your favorite movie?
JM: That’s a difficult one. Until the show “Made in the USA” I watched 80’s movies every Wednesday night with my friends for a whole year. Kevin Bacon in Footloose is brilliant! And did you know that Footloose is filmed in Utah where I live? There you go again… six degrees to Kevin Bacon!
