Jinx Shannon

Mary's mother Jinx (Lesley Ann Warren) adores her two daughters but has never been a traditional, supportive, job holding, or even sober, maternal figure. Jinx is happiest lounging by the pool with a stiff drink in one hand and her deadbeat lover-du-jour in the other.

She's been living with Mary ever since her apartment building burned down. The arrangement, which was supposed to last a few weeks, has stretched into a year with no sign of changing. But Mary would never kick her out; strongly encourage her to get a job and start contributing to expenses—yes.

Even though Jinx knows that her laze-about ways occasionally get on Mary's nerves, she also suspects Mary is happy to have her mother's shoulder close by when she needs it—though Mary would never admit it.
