What does the CIA do?
The CIA collects, analyzes and disseminates foreign intelligence that may be able to serve the United States.

What kinds of people work for the CIA? And how many people work for the Agency?
Doctors, scientists, linguists, mechanics, pilots, soldiers and many other types of people are on the CIA payroll. The CIA is constantly looking for different people in different capacities and with different abilities to aid their work. As for the number of employees ... sorry, that's classified.

Is the CIA budget unlimited?
That's a myth. The CIA budget is inspected and approved by the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence.

Does the CIA really have a Starbucks in its buildings?
Yes. And most agents prefer the Mocha Frappuccino if you're wondering.

Hey, believe it or not, I'll be vacationing in Langley, VA and want to take a tour of your facilities. Is that possible?
Not a chance. But thanks for your interest. Due to security and logistical reasons, we don't let unauthorized guests onto the premises.

I've heard dating within the Agency is encouraged. Is this true?
Yes. Whenever possible, the CIA likes to keep all secrets within the Circle of Trust.

Will the CIA ever spy on me?
No. The CIA will never retrieve, evaluate or distribute foreign intelligence that pertains to US citizens UNLESS there is sufficient evidence to believe that a US citizen is a threat to national security or is involved in terrorism.

Who tells the CIA what to do?
Ultimately, the CIA takes orders from the President, usually under the reference of the National Security Council.

I've heard that when you join the CIA, you'll be able to assassinate dangerous targets, outrun drug smugglers in cigarette boats and meet really sexy operatives. Is that true?
The CIA does not usually partake in such activities. However, the CIA does recruit spies, and those spies do sometimes use nifty gadgets to obtain intel and or find themselves in dangerous situations.

If I'm not a US citizen, can I still get a job with the CIA?
Not a chance. The CIA doesn't hire aliens and will not aid in them getting citizenship.

What's the minimum age to work for the CIA?
If you can vote, serve in the military or attend R-rated movies on your own, you're eligible to apply for the CIA.

Say I used drugs in college, but only once. Am I automatically barred from working at the CIA?
You are eligible as long as you haven't used illicit drugs in the last 12 months. However, past drug use may still be detrimental to your required security clearance. All CIA candidates must pass security clearance.

What if I pirated music or movies a few times in my life. Is it still possible to gain employment with the CIA?
Yes, but it certainly won't help.

I have a tattoo of a butterfly on my ankle. Will this hurt my chances of getting hired?
No. Tattoos are just fine.

How soon or long can I expect for the application process to take?
As little as two months or as long as over a year. The CIA processes 10,000 applications each month.
