"Half a World Away" EP 207/SEASON 2 — Istanbul
"I just wanted to thank you for all your help. I'm sorry I didn't read you in and I'm sorry you went to so much trouble. Truly, I am." —Auggie Anderson
When Auggie goes to the Istanbul International Jazz Festival on vacation, he hears the voice of someone he never thought he'd hear again — the man who blinded him. In an episode that spans several years and three countries, the truth behind Auggie's injury is finally revealed.
- In what was the most ambitious overseas episode to date, "Half a World Away" shot in Turkey (including at the actual Istanbul International Jazz Festival) and in Jordan, which was used to double for Tikrit, Iraq.
- It was also the first time a significant portion of an episode was filmed overseas — meaning it would have been incredibly difficult to re-shoot them if a problem had surfaced. The ultimate success of the episode, both creatively and technically, helped pave the way for the increased international filming that was done for Season 2.5.
- Chris Gorham (Auggie) noted that while filming in Istanbul, none of the locally hired actors spoke English, meaning that any notes from (episode director) Felix Alcala had to be passed along to the actors via a bilingual member of the crew.
