Alex Desert


Alex Desert portrays Jake, the blind owner of the local newsstand in the hit half-hour comedy series, BECKER.

A regular on several television series, Desert portrayed Eli Williams on "Boy Meets World," starred in the musical drama "The Heights," the science fiction series "The Flash," and "TV 101." Other television credits include the role of Floyd for the pilot "Zero Effect," directed by Jake Kasdan, and the telefilm "Lush Life," with Jeff Goldblum, Forest Whitaker and Don Cheadle.

Probably best known for his character Charles in the hit movie "Swingers," Desert's other film credits include a role in the upcoming "Masked & Anonymous," the highly successful "High Fidelity," the cult favorite "PCU," and "Playing God" with David Duchovny.

Desert, whose family members are all natives of Haiti, is the first in his family to be born in the United States. A native of Queens, Desert graduated from the prestigious Fiorello De La Guardia High School of Performing Arts where he studied theater.

In addition to his acting career, Desert is an accomplished musician. He is one of the founding members and lead singer of the ska/reggae band Hepcat, which has toured extensively in the U.S., Europe and Australia with bands including The Specials and reggae pioneers, The Skatalites. They have also performed at the International Reggae Sunsplash Festival at the Greek Theatre.

Hepcat also performed on the "Conan O'Brien Show." The band has released four albums, one of which was voted one of the top ten albums of the year by Time Magazine in 1998. He is also an investor in Los Angeles' hip, new restaurant/bar, Vine Fondue.

Desert is single and currently lives in Los Angeles.
