The explosive season finale to Queen of the South season 1 is finally here. But how did we get to this point? Check out these 28 gifs that perfectly recap the first season of Queen of the South.
Teresa Mendoza meets a handsome young man by the name of Guero. And let's just say it was love at first sight.
But that love would lead Teresa down a dark and dangerous road of drugs, crime, and violence.
A year after they meet, Teresa gets the phone call she always dreaded - Guero was dead.
Teresa learns that Guero's friend Chino will also be killed. She goes to stop it but is unsuccessful. The killers then chase Chino's girlfriend, Brenda, her son, and Teresa in an attempt to end their lives as well.
Teresa remembers what Guero told her to do in case he is killed - take his special notebook to the infamous drug lord, Don Epifanio, in exchange for her life.
Teresa meets up with Epifanio but something isn't right. She instructs him to stop the car, but when he refuses, Teresa winds up shooting the driver and escaping. Eventually she is captured and taken to Dallas, where, unbeknownst to Epifanio, Teresa is forced to work for his wife, Camila.
Teresa again tries to flee, but there's nowhere to go. She's stuck with Camila.
Meanwhile, her friend Brenda is on the run as well.
Camila has a plan - she'll use Teresa as a drug mule to transport her product.
But this plan comes with some pitfalls as Teresa is being chased by Epifanio's henchmen.
Camila puts her top lieutenant, James, in charge of Teresa's every move. But it's not an easy task.
Teresa eventually warms up to her new role as Camila's top transporter, using her beauty and street knowledge to stay one step ahead of the game.
On one of her deliveries, Teresa even sniffs out an ambush.
And is able to escape unharmed.
But James is right on her tail, no matter where she goes.
Meanwhile, Brenda makes it to the States. And starts her own little operation.
But there are some missteps along the way.
James has a plan to steal money from a couple of dealers in order for Camila to pay back her debts, as Epifanio tried to sabotage her operation.
The plan works. And with that, Camila is able to pay off her debts.
But not without consequence for Teresa. She heads back to Mexico and tries to help a maid, Maria, whom earlier she had impersonated in order to kill a drug dealer who escaped the ambush. Maria's family wanted nothing to do with her.
Now in Mexico, Teresa tries to recover the notebook Guero gave her from the restroom she hid it in. Only one problem - it's not there. Later, one of the gas station attendants gives it to her so all is not lost.
Now, even more desperate to secure her freedom, Teresa hatches another plan. She steals some cocaine from Camila...
...and gives it to a lawyer in exchange for fake papers that would allow her to flee the country.
Brenda is not pleased that it will take forever to get the papers. She decides a better plan would be to sell Guero's notebook of secrets to Epifanio's rivals, the Jimenez cartel.
Back in Mexico, Epifanio's dream of becoming governor is close to reality. But his war with Camila may throw a monkey wrench into his plans.
Brenda's plan to sell Guero's book hits a speedbump as well.
The only one whose plan is succeeding? Camila, who strikes a new deal with Epifanio's associates while he pursues his dreams of becoming governor.
Will Epifanio climb the top of the Mexican political sphere? Will Teresa and Brenda finally earn their freedom? Will Camila take over more territory and finally get the respect she deserves? Find out tonight on the explosive season finale of Queen of the South!
