[Warning: Contains spoilers through Queen of the South episode 206]
The plot thickens. Guero is back, and with his return, the introduction of an increasingly complex love triangle. Just when we thought Teresa Mendoza was able to fully distance herself from the utter heartbreak over the death of her boyfriend, she is completely blindsided by the news that he is, in fact, alive. To complicate matters even more, he is now working with Camila Vargas to secure product for the business.
To describe last week’s episode as intense would be quite the understatement. Teresa, James, and Guero are all ensnared in the clutches of the mysterious cult leader, El Santo, who forces Teresa to make a game-changing decision. In order to atone for their sin of spilling the blood of El Santo’s people, a blood sacrifice is demanded, and it’s a choice between Guero and James. Ultimately, Teresa offers herself as tribute, but when she swallows a poisonous beetle in the presence of El Santo’s congregation, we glimpse two very interesting scenarios.
So, it seems we have two teams: #TeamGuero and #TeamJames. Which side are you on?
All he wants to do is fly Teresa to Spain, drink cold sangria, and make love all day in the sand. Sounds like an ideal Saturday, right? Oh, if it were only that easy. There is no doubt Guero cares deeply for Teresa, for as we saw in last week’s episode, he was willing to die to save his one, true love.
But to play devil’s advocate, El Santo does warn Teresa of a Judas among her group, and we have to wonder if he is referring to Guero. First, he returns at the beck and call of the DEA, carrying out his duties as a snitch. Then, he miraculously aligns himself with Camila Vargas after promising to obtain new product, and in the process, almost kills Teresa after an accidental overdose. Yes, he loves her, but does he value his personal freedom over the opportunity for lifelong happiness with Teresa?
Our Queen has made it this far, but is Guero the key to her success or the prelude to her demise?
It was a rocky start, to say the least. James doesn’t necessarily give off the knight-in-shining-armor vibe, and consequently, is a little rough around the edges. He is, however, beginning to fall for Teresa, and we wonder if she is slowly but surely starting to do the same.
Throughout season two, James has made blatant demonstrations of his affection for Teresa. Not only was he willing to sacrifice his life for Teresa out in the desert, but he was also willing to do the same during the DEA raid. Their romantic tension culminates with a passionate kiss, but is ruined in the most tragic way after Guero kills James with a single gunshot. Thankfully, this ending was nothing more than a dream, but the budding romance between these two is reality.
This love triangle will certainly intensify over the course of time, and it seems as though Teresa will ultimately have to make a choice between them. Which side are you on? Tweet us at @QueenOnUSA with #TeamGuero or #TeamJames and tune in to Queen of the South this Thursday for action!
