Portia Doubleday Has Amazing Intentions (But She's Really Bad at Saving Lives)

We've learned that, while she may be a shy, doed-eyed beauty, Mr. Robot'sAngela is nothing short of fearless. Seriously, you have to have some major cajones to try and hack the FBI with zero experience. Turns out that the woman who plays her is really brave in real life too! The only problem is that Portia Doubleday isn't exactly the best at saving the day.
During a panel discussion with the cast of Mr. Robot for this year's season premiere hosted by Keegan-Michael Key, Doubleday shared a funny anecdote that no one saw on the live stream; she attempted to run into a burning building to save people.
About a year ago, Doubleday was at a gas station in Los Angeles when she saw a candle erupt into a fire across the street. She ran into the building, but no one was inside. She also thought she heard a dog who needed rescuing, but he was nowhere to be found either.
"It was a huge apartment building and I ran around and I opened the door and I went in," Doubleday detailed with an exasperated laugh. "It was horrible and I thought I was going to die and nobody was in there. Then I had to be rescued."
After hearing her co-star's story, Rami Malek (Elliot) chimed in that he once saw Doubleday try to rescue a baby bird on the streets of New York City! Guess what? She didn't rescue that bird either.
"We ruined it because the mom was actually feeding it," Doubleday remembered. "I thought it was helpless and it wasn't. We fed it burger and it almost choked on the bite and we thought he was going to lose his mind... so we gave it back to the mom and hopefully it survived."
We learned another fun fact that day from the cast after the cameras had stopped rolling. Malek is allergic to cats -- and that's why he has Qwerty the fish.
"Initially, in the pilot Qwerty was a cat but they were so worried that I would erupt in hives all the time that we made him a beta fish," Malek explained. "For Elliot it's a much better pet. That's one of those great moments, those happy accidents that just work within the art. It just slides in."
We haven't actually seen Qwerty this season, so hopefully no one gave him to Angela to take care of!
