Mr. Robot Will Hack Tribeca Film Festival This Weekend
USA Network's award-winning series Mr. Robot will return to the 2016 Tribeca Film Festival this year with a special "hacker village" activation, running from Friday, Apr. 15 to Sunday, Apr. 17 at the Festival Hub within Spring Studios (6 St Johns Ln., NYC).
"Hacked by DEF CON and Mr. Robot" will be an immersive experience where aspiring fsociety members can test their real-life hacking skills. Hands-on challenges include:
Lock-Picking Village: Attendees will learn the basics, test out hardware, and pit newly acquired skills against other hackers.
Hardware Hacking: Amateurs can unlock the hidden potential of various gadgets rarely mentioned in instruction manuals.
Privacy: Fans will be given the tools to protect one's digital identity, even in the age of near-ubiquitous surveillance.
Bio Hacking: Attendees will be challenged to discover ways to use technology for the greater good.
fsociety Recruitment Challenge: Visitors will prove whether they have the knowledge and skills to land amongst the ranks of fsociety.
The Festival will also host a discussion with the stars and writers of Mr. Robot called “Living in a Post-Mr. Robot World.” The one-hour Q&A will take place on Sunday, Apr.17 at 1:00 pm at the Festival Hub and will be moderated by DEF CON founder Jeff Moss aka The Dark Tangent, who will lead a discussion on security, privacy and the authenticity of Mr. Robot’s portrayal of hacker culture.
