Mr. Robot Hits Amazon Prime Today
You’ve heard the hype -- from fans to critics to prestigious award shows -- and with new episodes rolling in next month, it’s imperative that you catch up on the highly acclaimed USA Network hacker drama Mr. Robot now. Starting today, the first season is available on Amazon Prime, so here are a few things you should know before you binge.
What it’s about: Elliot Alderson (Rami Malek) is working as a cybersecurity engineer in New York City when he’s approached by a mysterious hacker (Christian Slater), who wants his help in bringing down E Corp -- the very company Elliot’s been hired to protect.
What it’s like: Imagine if Travis Bickle and Patrick Bateman co-starred in a movie directed by Stanley Kubrick, and you’d start to get a sense of the tone and themes of Mr. Robot. Sam Esmail’s psychological drama captures the isolation and anxiety of the tech age through the lens of a sympathetic, though mentally unstable, protagonist.
Why It’s Good: The details are meticulous, the soundtrack is incredible, and the cast brings the characters to life in such a way that you can’t imagine anyone other than Rami Malek, Christian Slater, Portia Doubleday, and Carly Chaikin as the main players. Mr. Robot is the type of show that warrants multiple viewings, and -- if you get really into -- a few trips to Reddit to theorize with other fans about what’s going on.
How long it will take: The first season is 10 episodes, so you could burn through it in about eight hours.
Where to see it: All 10 episodes of Mr. Robot are available Monday, June 13 on Amazon Prime with subscription. You can also rent or purchase the first season on Amazon, Google Play, iTunes, Microsoft, Sony Playstation, and Vudu. Episodes 6-10 are available on the USA Now app and USANetwork.com (with hidden Easter eggs, insider info and behind-the-scenes secrets).
