ABOUT THE MOVIE

The year is 1951, the heart of Hollywood's Golden Age, and Peter Appleton (Jim Carrey) is an ambitious young screenwriter on the fast track to fame. With a movie based on a screenplay he wrote set to open (and the film's sexy starlet on his arm), everything is going well - until Peter is blacklisted by the House Un-American Activities Committee and his dreams of Hollywood success quickly begin to fade. But when a car accident in a small California community leaves Peter with a case of amnesia, he is given a chance to start again... as small town native Luke Trimble, an MIA war hero who Peter bears an uncanny physical resemblance to. Still reeling from the loss of so many of its own to the war, the town quickly comes back to life as they welcome "Luke" home. Peter soon develops a relationship with Luke's beautiful girlfriend (Laurie Holden) as well as with Luke's endearing father (Martin Landau), with whom he teams up to renovate and reopen the magical local movie house, The Majestic. But how long with Peter's idyllic small town life last before his past finally catches up with him? Directed by Frank Darabont.
