Andie Anderson (Kate Hudson) longs for weightier assignments as a writer for "Composure" magazine. Her boss (Bebe Neuwirth) consents ... on one condition: that Andie author a personal account of disastrous dating habits in an article entitled, "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days."

Advertising executive Benjamin Berry (Matthew McConaughey) has his sights set on managing his firm's new diamond merchant account. But his boss wants a woman to tackle the job and Benjamin's rival co-workers Judy Green (Shalom Harlow) and Judy Spears (Michael Michele) jump at the opportunity.

While out on the town, the two Judys bet Benjamin that if he can charm a woman into falling in love with him in 10 days, they'll let him handle the new account. When Andie appears that night, the girls (who secretly know of Andie's unique assignment) challenge Benjamin to win her over. Benjamin unknowingly accepts, setting in motion a 10-day competition between his and Andie's disparate agendas that may just result in an unlikely match.
