SHANE'S HOLIDAY FAVORITES
What is your favorite holiday memory? All of my favorite holiday memories involve my family. I remember one year in particular when this huge snow storm hit the East Coast and how my sister and I were sort of bummed because all of our grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins couldn't make it to our house that year.
But that didn't phase my parents, who saw to it to make it extra special. My dad dug us these six-foot high snow forts and we went sledding off our roof into the snow drifts. Meanwhile my mom was cranking out cookies batch after batch and was pretty much letting us eat them for breakfast, lunch and dinner ... it was awesome. I remember it like it was yesterday.
Do you have a favorite holiday tradition?
It sounds a little "Cleaver-esque" but my family is really big into board games. My mom is a huge Scrabblehead and it seems throughout the year she is constantly coming up with these crazy words which she's convinced will finally put her over the top. So it fun to rack up the W's (worth four points each - Yes, I am that nerdy) against her.
One of my favorite personal traditions involves passing out in front of the family room fire after stuffing myself full of turkey. Whether it is the tryptophane from the turkey or just being exhausted from all of the family bantering ... I am usually out like a light in a matter of minutes.
What was the best gift you have given/received for Christmas?
The best gift I've ever received might just be what Amanda surprises me with this year (I won't give it away ... you'll have to watch the show) but let's just say her tiny presents have become a big part our lives. I was surprised and taken aback at first, but I have to say I have enjoyed her gift even more than my previous favorite: the Star Wars Millennium Falcon my parents got me back in 1979.
I think the best gift I have ever given might just be the one I gave my girlfriend Amanda this year, as I picked up and left the place I called home for nearly a decade and moved over 3,000 miles across the country to live with her in L.A.
