REX COVINGTON - A REAL ICE GUY
It's not everyday that you get to play with a chainsaw and it's almost never that you're using it to cut ice. Some of you tough guys out there have probably cut some trees down, but how many of you have ever sliced some ice?
I didn't think so.
We got to Rex's place, which was pretty chill (get it?). Anyway, we got to go through his books of photos of some of his ice sculptures so that we could possibly get some inspiration for what we we're about to carve.
As fate would have it, we made originals. Rex had never made a Dodge Avenger before and he surely had never made a bust of me. It was pretty easy getting the overall shape down, but it got much more difficult when having to deal with the details. In other words, making the shape of my head wasn't hard; the eyeballs were.
I'm still mad at Evan for decapitating my sculpture, but am trying to learn to forgive him. Thanks to this show, I won't ever forget.
Rex was a good sport and gave us the freedom and support to make our very first (and probably our last) ice sculptures. He also has a great name for a baseball player. "Rex Covington, the centerfielder, batting second." It's hard to make out my announcer voice here.
I love baseball, and Rex loves ice. Baseball, ice, and Rex are all welcome because not only are characters welcome, but so are their hobbies. And ex-girlfriends. Email photos of your exes to us. Thanks.
