HIGHWAY 50 DISPATCHES
Beginning in May, USA Network will begin broadcasting Tom Brokaw's monthly updates on his travels in "Dispatches From The Road." These eight vignettes will introduce some of the fascinating characters and destinations he encounters on his Highway 50 road trip. Each month a new dispatch will premiere in primetime on USA, and will then be available for viewing anytime at Highway50.tv. In addition, Highway50.tv will feature in-depth profiles of the people and places featured in the dispatches, background on Highway 50 and much more.

MAY: CAMBRIDGE, MD
Cambridge, Maryland is located along Highway 50 on the Eastern Shore of the Chesapeake Bay, not far from the eastern terminus of Highway 50 in Ocean City, Maryland. Perhaps most famous for the legendary Blue Crab collected off its shores, the traditional ways of life are beginning to give way to uncertainty and change, and the community is facing a period of transition. JUNE: WASHINGTON, DC

AUGUST: EAST ST. LOUIS, IL
Though just across the Mississippi from St. Louis, the troubled city of East St. Louis seems a world away. Dubbed an All-America City in 1959, East St. Louis has since suffered a dramatic decline, and in 1990 the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development dubbed it "the most distressed small city in America." A city founded by newspapermen in the 1850s, Emporia has discussed about moving or abandoning Highway 50. But Emporia business owners and residents know the value of Highway 50, and have lobbied to keep the route just as it is, running right through the center of town. LEARN MORE >>

OCTOBER: MONTROSE, CO
Named after a character in a novel by Sir Walter Scott, the city of Montrose, located in southwestern Colorado, was incorporated in 1882. The town originally developed to serve nearby mining communities, with railroad expansion soon turning Montrose into a regional shipping center. LEARN MORE >>

Forty years ago, Fernley, Nevada was a rural town of 850, with a few dairies and alfalfa fields; today, this city, located on Highway 50 thirty minutes east of Reno, is a center for several industries and home to 20,000 residents.
