JULIA ROBERTS

Day Job: Actor

Famous For: Roberts came to Hollywood's attention in Mystic Pizza in 1988 and went on to become Richard Gere's Pretty Woman in 1990, earning her first Oscar nomination. She went on to nab both an Academy Award and a Golden Globe award for playing the title role in Erin Brokovich. In 2007, she was named one of Forbes magazine's Richest Women Entertainers. She's married to cameraman Danny Moder and is the mother of a new baby boy and fraternal twins-a boy and a girl.

Cause Célèbre: During the last couple of years, Roberts has been showing a little bit of her alter-ego Erin Brokovich's "I'm-not-going-to-take-this-sitting-down" attitude. Motivated by ensuring that our planet is a healthy, green, safe place for her three children to live, proclaiming herself to be a "Green Actress," she has begun publicly promoting the use of biodiesel fuel, especially in school buses. She and her husband, who own a ranch in Taos, New Mexico, also joined a coalition to help protect 100,000 of land filled with wildlife, called the Valle Vidal, from being drilled. Though she is leveraging her celebrity status to get big messages out, she also is a strong believer in the motto "even small things mean a lot," acting as a role-model for daily green living by driving a Prius, living in a solar-powered house, bringing her metal cup with her when she gets coffee, using Seventh Generation diapers for her three kids and reusing her grocery bags.
