EDWARD NORTON
Day Job: Actor
Famous For: Norton's first major feature film role in the courtroom thriller, Primal Fear, alongside Richard Gere instantly made him an actor to be reckoned with when he nabbed an Academy Award nod and a Golden Globe win in 1996. From there, the chameleon-like actor went on to play a host of diverse characters, from a reformed neo-nazi in American History X to a singing, dancing romantic fool in Everyone Says I Love You to an underground bare-knuckle-obsessed brawler with Brad Pitt in Fight Club to a sweet priest with a crush on his childhood friend in the romantic comedy Keeping the Faith. Keeping up not only his faith but a penchant for never allowing himself to be typecast, he will take on the role as action hero when he becomes The Incredible Hulk next year.
Cause Célèbre: For Norton, involvement in social causes runs in the family. His grandfather founded Enterprise Community Partners, an organization that helps build affordable housing for low-income families, on the board of which the actor now sits. Literally building on his position with the non-profit, he partnered with BP and the Environmental Media Association to create the BP Solar Neighbors Program. Whenever a celebrity gets a solar system installed in their home under this program, BP then donates a system to a low-income family in South Central Los Angeles. Since its inception, celebrities such as Brad Pitt, Owen Wilson, Robin Williams, Don Cheadle, Danny DeVito and Rhea Pearlman have participated. Seems like more sunny days are ahead for this program and its visionary.
