Famous For: In a career that has spanned decades and included roles in some of the biggest blockbusters of all time (perhaps you've heard of the Star Wars or Indiana Jones films?), this Oscar-nominated actor has portrayed some of film’s most iconic–if somewhat reluctant and roguish–heroes. Thanks to his performances in the aforementioned blockbusters, as well as star turns in Blade Runner, Witness, Working Girl, Patriot Games, and The Fugitive, among many others, Ford has cemented his status as one of the biggest box office stars in film history.
Cause Célèbre: On screen, Harrison Ford often steps in to help save the world (or a galaxy far, far, away). Off screen, he's no less heroic. For nearly twenty years, Ford has been an active member of Conservation International (CI), an organization devoted to preserving biodiversity. He has demonstrated his commitment to environmental protection in a variety of ways, from donating nearly 400 acres of his own property in Jackson, Wyoming for conservation, to waxing his chest hair for a 2008 public service announcement to illustrate the painful effects of deforestation. In recognition of his work, Ford has received numerous awards, and been recognized with a spider and an ant species named in his honor (Calponia harrisonfordi and Pheidole harrisonfordi, respectively.)
