Famous For: Standing at the bow of the Titanic in 1997 with Kate Winslet "flying" not only launched "Leo-Mania" but also helped the movie earn eleven Academy Awards and the ranking as the highest grossing film worldwide of all time. Since that historic "doomed" voyage, DiCaprio went on to play in a number of critically-acclaimed films, including Gangs of New York, Catch Me If You Can, The Aviator, The Departed and Blood Diamond. He has been nominated for an Academy Award three times, including for his role in Titanic, and has won a Golden Globe for playing Howard Hughes in The Aviator.
Cause Célèbre: One would be hard-pressed to come up with an environmental issue that the internationally-known actor is not involved in, which could by why Vanity Fair chose to put Leo on the cover of their second annual Green Issue in May 2007. Just visit his eponymous site and you'll see why: side-by-side with news about his current Hollywood endeavors are links to myriad environmental issues (global warming, sustainability, fresh water, biodiversity, oceans), organizations supporting those causes and tips for how to get involved and make a difference. He even has his own foundation that he established in 1998. DiCaprio is on the board of the Natural Resources Defense Council and Global Green USA. In August he released a documentary about "the environmental crises caused by human actions and their impact on the planet" that he co-wrote, produced and narrated called, The 11th Hour. And of course, he drives a hybrid.
