Nailing an impression is definitely an art, but with these expert tips, it doesn’t need to be so tough. We asked some of the funniest people around -- the cast of the upcoming First Impressions -- to give their expert advice for doing a perfect impression. Check out their four foolproof tips, and get ready for First Impressions, which stars expert-in-residence Dana Carvey and host Freddie Prinze Jr.
1. Pick the Right Person.
This is key. When you pick someone you already really like, you’re going to be familiar with their catch phrases, their mannerisms, and what makes them so worthy of an impression. They say impressions are the sincerest form of flattery for a reason!
2. Add a Catchphrase.
It doesn’t necessarily need to be something the person has actually said, but think of something that fits into their persona. This will help give your own personal stamp on the impression.
3. Steal from Dana.
There’s a reason why Dana Carvey is on First Impressions -– and one of the funniest people in Hollywood. He is a master of creating great characters. Look to his best work to learn how to really own anything comedy related. Pro tip: the First Impressions cast all seem to really be inspired by his super-memorable Church Lady!
4. Get Physical.
Comedy shines when the comedian really gets into it. So don’t be afraid to put your whole body into the impression. By moving around and getting into the character’s mannerisms, your impression will take on a whole new life.
