[Warning: Contains spoilers for the season one finale of Eyewitness]
Alright, Eyewitness fans -- what did we think!? USA’s hit freshman series sure went out with a bang last night. The season finale that not only saw the bad guy get what he deserves but also saw our characters find touching, heartbreaking resolution. The Eyewitness Twitter family, of course, was there for the whole ride. Catch the highlights below and read the full recap here.
Ryan kills Anne.
One of the biggest shocks to Episode 110, “Mother’s Day,” was Ryan staging the death of Anne in an attempt to get to Philip and Lukas. Showrunner Adi Hasak warned us last week that not everyone would make it to the finish line, but nothing could prepare us for the departure of Anne, just as she was taking steps to better herself.
Philip and Lukas put that condom to use.
Another one of the major teases going into this season finale was the chance for Philip and Lukas to get intimate, even at the height of their external troubles. Hiding out from Ryan in a cheap motel room, they learn to not take each other for granted to embrace the time they have together.
“Mother’s Day” reveals its namesake.
Did anyone else pick up on the fact that Helen finally said, “My kid,” in reference to Philip? Finally, the family has come together as one to stand against Ryan and keep each other safe.
Helen shoots Ryan dead.
In the nick of time, Helen gets to Ryan and Philip just as Ryan is going to shoot her foster son dead, but in a surprising turn, Ryan lets Philip go. When Ryan seems to pull his gun on her, Helen shoots him down. Turns out, though, that Ryan emptied his cartridge to let Helen get her payback for the destruction he’s caused.
Philip and Lukas are no longer hiding.
Now safe from Ryan and out and proud to their families, Philip and Lukas are a little more open about their relationship. It’s especially touching when they kiss in front of Helen and Gabe before riding off to a party in Red Hook, Brooklyn.
Say it ain’t so!
Just because this finale hit all the right notes, however, doesn’t mean audiences are ready to let Eyewitness go!
Thanks for the journey!
But if it’s any consolation, the Eyewitness cast wasn’t quite ready to let the series go, either. Many of them took to social media to thank the series’ devoted fans personally. Who knows if Season 2 is on the horizon, but either way, let’s be grateful for Philip, Lukas, and the season that was. .
