Last night’s penultimate hour of Eyewitness had many viewers -- including star Tyler Young -- calling it the best episode of the series so far. Here’s how fans were reacting across Twitter.

So many hugs!
“Savior Unknown” first had Rose -- who viewers have come to loathe as one of the things standing in the way of Philip and Lukas’ happiness -- admit to Philip that she knows about his relationship with Lukas and that she won’t tell anyone. Philip and Rose then give each other a hug outside of Lukas’ hospital room, where the boy they both care about still lies unconscious. #TeamRose
This episode also had Helen and Philip finally hugging for the first time! She apologized for not trusting him and for getting too caught up in the case to realize that Philip needed her and Gabe to be there for him.
Bo lets Philip in…
Despite resenting Philip for bringing trouble into his son’s life, Bo recognizes the close relationship that the two boys have and believe that hearing Philip’s voice might be the thing to wake Lukas up. He looks past his pride and to what’s best for his son.
…then shuts him out.
Of course, the peace is broken shortly after -- this is Eyewitness, after all! Bo sees Philip sitting over the unconscious Lukas and kissing him on the forehead. While it’s a sweet moment of desperation from Phillip, it’s more than Bo was bargaining for. He leaves the hospital and we don’t see him the rest of the episode.
“I love you, Lukas.”
Fearing the worst for Lukas, Philip sits distraught next to him and pleads him to wake up, confessing his love in the process. Were you crying as much as we were at this scene?
Lukas wakes up asking for Philip.
We don’t know if Lukas could actually hear anything Philip was saying to him while he was passed out, but it’s clear Lukas feels the same! When he finally wakes up, the first person he asks to see is Philip.
About that scene in the maternity ward.
More trouble arises after Lukas awakes, though, and our two heroes are still in danger. After Philip spots Ryan (who he knows simply as the killer) at a gas station near the hospital, he and Lukas are moved to the maternity ward in hopes to protect them in case the killer comes to the hospital. There, the two boys have an incredibly emotional conversation about their relationship, their safety, and the whereabouts of Bo. Tyler Young tweeted that this was his favorite moment to film between Philip and Lukas.
Fans call for awards attention.
Between this scene in the maternity ward where a shell-shocked Lukas breaks down and worries about his father and the final moments where Helen devastatingly pieces together that the killer is Ryan, a man she trusted to protect Philip and Lukas, “Savior Unknown” featured some of the best acting this series has seen so far. Viewers noticed, demanding awards like the Screen Actors Guild Awards take notice of James Paxton and Julianne Nicholson.
If you need us, we’ll be crying till next week’s season finale.
We don’t know how it will all turn out for our heroes in next week’s season finale, but we’re pretty sure we’ll be needing tissues.
