It was a slow-boiler, but Episode 107 of Eyewitness had us on the edge of our seats thanks to a looming Ryan Kane. Plus it featured some of the sweetest moments so far with our central heroes, Lukas and Philip. Here’s how Twitter was reacting in last night’s play-by-play.
“Does your stomach hurt?”
With Philip back in Tivoli after Lukas told Helen the (half) truth about that night in the cabin, our favorite boys are back together and closer than ever. Opening with a particularly memorable scene where they hold hands while lounging and flirting in the shade of a tree, it seems like happiness may finally be in the cards for Philkas. Once the smoke on this murder mystery clears, we have hope for this couple, yet!
Gabe is basically the best dad ever.
After all the drama last week with Philip nearly relocating away from Helen and Gabe, getting a moment to apologize and talk it out was important for the family of three. Unfortunately, Helen is so preoccupied with the case that her personal life is cast aside, but Gabe does right by apologizing himself. He even offers Philip the bedroom upstairs so Tivoli feels more like a permanent home. He says Philip is welcome to stay with them, even after his mother gets better in rehab.
Audiences still sympathize with Helen.
Despite her obvious faults and obsessive tendencies with this murder case, Helen often gets the benefit of the doubt from audiences that she’s a good person caught in a bad situation. It’s wrong of her to not take the time to apologize to Philip right away, but she later rights that wrong by buying him film for his Polaroid camera. Plus, she’s really making headway on the case.
Lukas misidentifies Mithat as the killer.
Let’s not forget, though, that Eyewitness’s two lovebirds are still in a lot of danger. After presenting Helen with the gun at the end of 106, Lukas is brought in to identify the killer from the trunk in a lineup. Through human error (and potentially the desire to make it all go away), Lukas hastily identifies the deceased Mithat as the killer, falling in line with the DNA sample from Bella’s autopsy. Despite the mounting evidence against her case, Helen still thinks the real killer is out there.
Tony tells Ryan Kane that Helen’s got an eyewitness.
He had no way of knowing, but Tony was pretty infuriating this episode when he incidentally told Ryan that Helen has an eyewitness from the cabin. He was staying late in the FBI HQ listening to Lukas’s recorded interview with Helen when Ryan overhears and starts asking questions. Tony doesn’t give him all the details, but Ryan gets enough information to plot his next move.
Ryan sets his sights on Lukas.
Learning from Tony’s recorded account that the eyewitness is alive and rides a motorbike, Ryan realizes he got the wrong kid with Tommy. After some light Facebook stalking, he figures out that the witness is Lukas, and he plans on silencing that lead.
There’s lot of doggie drama.
Spotting a dog with Gabe and Philip in the previews for last night’s episode was exciting for many viewers—maybe Gabe got his foster son a new pup! Turns out it was just a dog staying with them while Gabe, who’s a veterinarian, monitored its health, but it was still cute anyway! That glee quickly switched gears to sadness, though, when Ryan snuck onto Helen and Gabe’s farm to kill Lukas and kills the dog so it doesn’t give him away.
Luckily, Helen scares Ryan off.
Just as Ryan is about to make his move and kill Lukas and Philip in the barn, Helen chases his shadowed figure off the property, gun in-hand. Tragically, she of course doesn’t know that that figure was Ryan, so she calls him straight away to tell him that the killer wasn’t Mithat, despite Lukas’s I.D., and that the real killer was just on her property trying to kill her eyewitness.
