The Host occupation has been hard on everyone in the L.A. bloc, but it’s especially difficult for Colony's Katie Bowman (Sarah Wayne Callies). Not only has she been separated from her young son, Charlie (Jacob Buster), but she secretly fights the authorities as a member of a rebel faction known as the Resistance. That’s a particularly big problem considering her husband, Will (Josh Holloway), has been working for Homeland Security.
Despite these challenges, Katie successfully continues to lead her double life. Though she’s had to learn some lessons the hard way (not all of her associates made it through the first season alive), we’ve compiled a list of “dos” and “don’ts” to aid viewers looking to follow a similar lifestyle.
DO: Keep quiet. The fewer lies you tell, the less you have to keep straight.
DON’T: Get involved in violent confrontations, especially with the authorities. This means no hijacking supplies trucks, no looking out for law enforcement on public rooftops, and avoiding precarious situations.
DO: Find yourself an inconspicuous hideout. A bar – like the Yonk – is a perfect refuge for any spy on the go: It’s dark, provides alcoholic beverages (which could potentially lower a source’s inhibitions, getting him or her to spill secrets), and has a spacious basement that’s perfect for target practice.
DON’T: Stay out past government-mandated curfew. You’re only drawing unnecessary attention to yourself!
DO: Distract your spouse. What do I know about a resistance group fighting against alien invaders and the human bureaucracy associated with them? Nothing at all, honey -- hey, how about I make you some eggs?
DON’T: Capture and dissect aliens. When it comes to being discreet, that’s a big no-no!
DO: Watch Colony Thursdays at 10/9c on USA Network. In addition to enjoying a thrilling, thought-provoking television series, who knows what kind of insights you’ll gain into leading a double-life?
Speaking of leading a double-life, watch Bravo's Imposters, premiering February 7. Here's a sneak preview.
