WHY EMILY PILLOTON IS CHARACTER APPROVED

Frustrated with the consumption-for-consumption's-sake mentality of the commercial design world, Emily Pilloton decided to take action. She founded Project H, a nonprofit organization—one part design firm, one part advocacy group—that is dedicated to harnessing the power of design for social good. Through her work at Project H and Studio H, her public high school "design/build" curriculum, Pilloton has emerged as a leader in socially conscious design and an advocate for designers and innovators globally. This eloquent, pioneering designer shows why she is Character Approved with the challenge she issued to her colleagues: "We need to go beyond 'going green' and to enlist a new generation of design activists. We need big hearts, bigger business sense and the bravery to take action now." Only 28 years old, Pilloton is leading the charge herself, using her talent and character to design a better world.
