It's hard to sit around and do nothing when you know that Charles Best is out there making a difference. That's what makes him Character Approved. The former public school teacher saw a classic problem-the lack of money for teaching supplies-and came up with a radical solution: "the eBay of philanthropy". Best founded DonorsChoose.org in 2000, which allows teachers to post online requests for needed materials and gives donors the chance to give directly to those needs via the web. Since the site's inception, it has raised over $24 million dollars, supporting over 60,000 school projects and helping to enhance the lives of 1.4 million students. Best is taking a leading role in modernizing philanthropy, and the results so far are astonishing. Oh, and he's only 32. We'll save a spot for him next year too, just in case.
