ABOUT JESSICA
Jessica Jackley was working in rural East Africa when she first began to recognize the power of microfinance. Fast-forward a few years, and Jessica-along with her husband Matthew Flannery-had founded Kiva.org, an award-winning website enabling users to lend as little as $25 to specific entrepreneurs in the developing world, providing affordable capital to help them start or expand a small business. Kiva.org has been named one of the top ideas in 2006 by the New York Times Magazine and called "revolutionary" by the BBC, and Jessica's work has been featured in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Economist, Oprah and The Today Show, among many others. In 2009, Jessica expanded her efforts to help entrepreneurs attain financing with ProFounder, a platform and website designed to provide new ways for small businesses in the U.S. to access start-up funding through community involvement. Jessica currently teaches Global Entrepreneurship at the Marshall School of Business at USC, speaks widely on microfinance and social entrepreneurship, and serves as director of the board for several organizations, both for-profit and non-profit.
