BIO
Davis Guggenheim, the Academy Award-winning director and executive producer of An Inconvenient Truth, recently turned his camera lens on the public school system in Waiting for "Superman." This critically-acclaimed documentary, which he directed and co-wrote, is a deeply personal exploration of the current state of public education in the U.S. and how it is affecting the nation's children. He also directed It Might Get Loud, the 2009 documentary featuring Jimmy Page, The Edge and Jack White, and Barack Obama's biographical film for the 2008 Democratic National Convention as well as his primetime infomercial. Guggenheim was producer and director of the Emmy Award-winning HBO series, Deadwood. His television directing credits include the pilot of the The Unit as well as episodes of Numbers, The Shield, Alias, 24, NYPD Blue, ER, and Party of Five. He was an executive producer of Training Day and director of the film Gossip for Warner Brothers. He directed and produced the feature film Gracie, which came out in June of 2007. In 1999, Guggenheim undertook an ambitious project documenting the challenging first year of several novice public school teachers. The result of this intensive immersion into Los Angeles' public school system was two documentary films: The First Year and Teach.
