Q & AWhat music—if any—is playing in the kitchen while you're cooking? There is absolutely no music played in the Alinea kitchen. The atmosphere is more Zen-like and aside from the natural sounds of the kitchen (equipment humming, knives chopping and pans sizzling), it is as quiet as a Swiss watchmaker's studio. Did you enjoy the process of writing and putting together your cookbook, Alinea? Would you like to do more? I very much enjoyed the process. We chose to self publish the cookbook ourselves so we had total creative control of not only the recipes, but the style of photography, the design, and the writing. This ended up being a lot of added work and at times stressful. But you know what they say—if it were easy, everyone would do it. Without a doubt I will publish another cookbook someday. I hope many more, but with the opening of both a cutting-edge cocktail bar and a restaurant with a concept such as Next, there is no shortage of fodder.
